Best Travel Commercials

By Marianne Schwab | Best Travel Deals Tips Blog

Everyone hates commercials. Or do they? In a world full of DVRs and TIVOs, who’s watching commercials anymore? Well, hopefully everyone is watching commercials because like them or not, they’re basically financing the productions of the programs we love to watch on TV so go ahead and watch some and thank the advertisers while you’re at it.

Each year everyone looks forward to the commercials during the Super Bowl. To be honest, I only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and I’m not alone. I happen to think that the creative teams at television advertising agencies are some of the most talented people in show business but the TV show writers and producers get all the glory.

With that said, here are some of the latest commercials promoting travel that I really like. Go ahead and watch them! It’s okay to like them! They’re fun!

Virgin Atlantic "Fabulous Virgin Atlantic" Campaign

Virgin Atlantic has a brilliant new commercial brought to my attention by my friends at savvystews.com. Who knew superheroes had such humble beginnings? And the "bromance" ad enlists the music of a classic Bee Gees tune.

Air New Zealand "Nothing to Hide" Campaign

Body painted Air NZ staff star in this "Nothing to Hide" campaign and brought it onboard for passengers in a Bare Essentials of Safety video, created for our Domestic 737 service. Thanks to my twitter pal @TravelBlggr, Rachelle Lewis, for bringing this to my attention.

Expedia: “Unpublished Rates” Campaign

I’m a big NCIS fan and I admit that I prefer getting the show on DVD at the end of the season so I can watch back-to-back episodes without commercial interruptions. Me bad. But I do love this thirty-second spot with NCIS star Pauley Perette (aka Abby Sciuto) promoting Expedia’s unpublished rates. Don’t forget you can book early and save! Find special deals in hot destinations only at Expedia.com!

Priceline: William Shatner TV Ads

Can’t mention Expedia TV commercials without also bringing the Priceline campaign into the mix. The commercials featuring William Shatner are always entertaining. I love one of the most current ones, but I particularly love the “Capt. Kirk and Dr. Spock reunion.” Just like William Shatner says, ”At Priceline hotels you can select your exact hotel or name your own price.” I'm gonna miss the Negotiator now that he's been "terminated."

Southwest Airlines: “Bags Fly Free” Campaign

It’s no secret that Southwest Airlines is my favorite domestic airline. They make air travel so easy in so many ways. It’s also no secret that I used to feel the exact opposite. What changed? Everything changed when the major airlines started eliminating services and perks that were traditionally part of the airline experience. Suddenly, Southwest seemed to have more perks, better service, not to mention a sense of humor plus… “Bags Fly Free!” They had me at FREE!

The Cosmopolitan Hotel - Las Vegas

This is The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas' 60-second TV ad, which premiered on February 12, 2012 during The Grammy Awards. The Cosmopolitan commercial features an iconic song, Bohemiam Rhapsody, from one of the most celebrated British bands, Queen.

Book Your Trip

Booking travel online should be quick and easy…not to mention affordable and that's why I like Expedia. Did you know that you can save up to $525 when you book your flight and hotel together at Expedia.com? For the best deals, book 60 days or more before you travel because usually the further out you plan, the better the package rate.
