Travel Advice:
Top Five Travel Mistakes

That Cost You Big Bucks

By Marianne Schwab | Best Travel Deals Tips Blog

Don't worry. It's not your fault. Without great travel advice, most people don't realize they're making travel mistakes that are costing them big bucks when they book vacations. That's why I'm here with my insider travel secrets. I am a TV Travel Show Producer who has traveled to 22 countries from China to the Middle East. It is my mission to help everyone who wants to travel discover a world of ways to see the world. So whether you're a seasoned globe trekker, like me, or someone who has travel dreams of seeing our beautiful world, I have put together a list of the top five travel mistakes people make that translate into paying too much for a vacation no matter where you book your trip (through a travel agent, airline or online). My job as your personal online leisure travel consultant is to give you travel tips that will help you find ways to get great travel deals to make your travel dreams a reality on almost any budget.

Travel Mistake #1:

Not Leveraging Money You're Already Spending into Travel Rewards. One of the ways I have been able to take incredible vacations for pennies on the dollar is by leveraging money I’m already spending by participating in reward programs and loyalty programs. These can be in the form of credit card reward programs, frequent stay programs at hotels, and frequent flyer programs as well as frequent cruise programs (and don't forget rental car programs, too). This is clearly a case where membership and loyalty have its travel rewards and privileges and my travel advice is to chose the programs that make sense to you and stay loyal and dedicated toward turning them into vacations and travel adventures complete with memories to last a lifetime.

By using my own travel advice and a combination of loyalty programs and credit card reward programs , not only did I fly First Class to China for $99, but I was able to take a 10-day trip to Europe and I only paid $215 in hotels (that were four-star) and only $515 in airfare for two people. You are missing out on thousands of dollars worth of free vacations and travel deals if you're not already participating in credit card reward programs and travel loyalty programs with airlines, hotels, car rental companies and cruise lines.

Avoid Jet Lag

You're packed and ready to go on vacation, so now comes the most important issue at hand: avoiding jet lag when you arrive at your destination. A survey by Conde Naste said that 93% of travelers get jet lag but you don't have to be one of them if you use my tips.

Book Your Trip

Booking travel online should be quick and easy…not to mention affordable and that's why I like Expedia. Did you know that you can save up to $525 when you book your flight and hotel together at Expedia.com? For the best deals, book 60 days or more before you travel because usually the further out you plan, the better the package rate.
