Cartegena, Columbia:
Fruit Market

By Marianne Schwab | Best Travel Deals Tips Blog

The most picturesque sites in the Caribbean beach city of Cartegena, Columbia, are not buildings or statues, but its colorful citizens. I snapped this photo of two fruit sellers dressed in vibrant colors and perfectly balancing bowls of fruit on their heads outside of a large market that totally caters to tourists. The day in Cartegena was part of a cruise ship shore excursion on a wonderful 10-day Western Caribbean cruise on board the MSC Poesia.

These fruit ladies are a common fixture in many areas of the city, especially in and around Cartagena's piazzas. These women will graciously pose for a photo with you, but expect to pay them a dollar or two for a "posing fee." They are business women, after all.
