The Hollywood Sign

A Star in Its Own Right

By Marianne Schwab | Best Travel Deals Tips Blog

The Hollywood Sign in Hollywood, California has become an icon synonymous with the entertainment world and this industry town. You might say, it's a star in its own right having been seen in more movies and television shows than some of the world's biggest movie stars.

I love taking friends and family to this spot to grab the quintessential photo op with this "Hollywood Star."

The Best Views of The Hollywood Sign. The best locations to view of the Hollywood Sign are not necessarily the closest. The Sign is 45-feet tall and thanks to its recent makeover, pops against a green and brown Mount Lee backdrop. Since it’s illegal to come close to the Sign–except from behind the Sign on the trails, here are a few viewpoints that not only have great views of the Hollywood Sign, but also fun Hollywood activities to fill up the day.

Hollywood and Highland: Go to the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Hollywood and it combines views of the Hollywood Sign along with the glamour of Hollywood. Visitors can take a peek at the Hollywood Sign while also strolling on the Walk of Fame for their favorite celebrity–or see if the famous handprints at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater match their own.

The Griffith Observatory: You'll get excellent views of the city and the Hollywood Sign from the Griffith Observatory. I like it because it also has free parking right and allows people of all physical abilities to view the Hollywood Sign and the city below. The observatory is also part of Hollywood history since it is the location where iconic scenes from movies like Rebel without a Cause were filmed.

Mulholland Drive: Mulhulland Drive has a specific viewpoint officially called the ‘Hollywood Bowl Overlook’ that offers a wonderful view of the Hollywood Sign complete with a historical placard. Not to mention that driving Mulholland Drive is a classice Hollywood experience in itself.

Booking travel online should be quick and easy…not to mention affordable and that's why I like Expedia. Did you know that you can save up to $525 when you book your flight and hotel together at Expedia.com? For the best deals, book 60 days or more before you travel because usually the further out you plan, the better the package rate.
