While strolling through the streets of Venice, I stumbled upon a chocolate lover's dream - a window display of Nutella in ginormous sized jars just waiting to be be devoured by hundreds of tourists hypnotized by the addictive ingredient used in delicious chocolate crepes.
Michele Ferrero, the founder and patriarch of the Italian Nutella and Ferrero Rocher empire, sadly died on Valentine's Day at the age of 89, but the richest candy man in the world leaves behind a tasty legacy for chocolate lovers worldwide.
Did you know that Nutella was invented by Ferrero's father, Pietro, back in the 1940s when
chocolate was rationed during World War II? In order to make the chocolate ingredient stretch, Pietro mixed in hazelnuts and the delicious chocolate spread, now known as Nutella, was born. The company says that the product was once six times less
expensive than chocolate. Regardless of what it costs now, Nutella has become a favorite tasty treat in Europe, America, and around the world.
