Ways to Save Money on Airline Travel

By Ezekiel Phippen, Contributing Author

There are several ways of to save money on an air travel - slashing your costs. Let's have a look at a few:

Book an Early or a Late Flight.

Flights that leave early in the morning or late at night are usually cheaper because most people don't want them. This is one of the great ways to save on airline travel. A flight that leaves at 6am could mean waking at up 4am to check in on time. A late flight could mean arriving home at midnight or later. However, while these can cause inconvenience, this means that you will have more time at your destination.

Use Only Carry-On Luggage.

Not paying for checked luggage is another one of the ways to save on airline travel. This can be impossible if you are staying or a long time, but you might be able to make it work if you are staying or a weekend or five days. If your hotel has a washer and dryer, then you will only need around four days worth of clothing for a trip of any length. Check and double check your baggage allowance and make sure you don't go over it. If you do, you will have to spend more money at the airport.

Pack a Snack or Lunch.

It's a good idea to have lunch before you get to the airport or when you leave, but if you'll be on the plane for a while then you might get hungry. If you can, pack your own snack to bring on board and eat that rather than spending money on airline food. Brown bagging it is becoming a one of the populare ways to save on airline travel.

Always Be on the Lookout for Ways to Save.

There are many more ways to save on airline travel that may not be as obvious. A taxi from the airport to your hotel might cost around $50, and public transport might set you back only $15, but if you're travelling in a large group then you can split the payment of the taxi and end up saving money for everyone.
